Sanibel Island Hurricane Ian Rebuild

Restoring this Sanibel residence after Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian left a path of destruction across Southwest Florida, testing the strength of homes and the resolve of homeowners. This home on Sanibel Island was no exception. Even though the home was elevated, it sustained significant flood damage, leaving the interior uninhabitable.

We had a personal connection to this home. We had previously remodeled both the exterior in 2017 and the interior in 2018, carefully crafting a beautiful and functional space for the homeowners. But when Ian struck, the home needed to be rebuilt—again.

Assessing the Damage

The aftermath of the storm was heartbreaking. Floodwaters had infiltrated the home, damaging floors, drywall, cabinetry, and essential systems. The outdoor areas, including the lanai and poolside, were also impacted. Despite its elevated structure, the sheer force of the storm surge overwhelmed the entire structure.

The Restoration Process

Rebuilding after a disaster of this magnitude requires meticulous planning, expert craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to restoring what was lost. The work on this home included:

  • Structural Repairs: New Hardie siding, trim, and impact-rated sliding glass doors and windows were installed to enhance durability against future storms.
  • Interior Reconstruction: New cabinetry, flooring, and paint throughout. The only plus side was that we were able to pull our previous files and get exactly what the homeowners had selected just a few y ears prior.
  • Essential Upgrades: A new roof, insulation, and drywall were installed, reinforcing the home’s structural integrity.
  • Outdoor Restoration: The aluminum screen enclosures and lanai were rebuilt, and the pool area was cleaned and repaired.

Through every stage, we worked closely with the homeowners to ensure their vision was restored, blending modern updates with the home’s original character.

A Home Reborn

Today, this Sanibel home stands strong once again. The transformation is not just about rebuilding walls and replacing floors—it’s about restoring a sense of home and security. The resilience of the homeowners and the dedication of our team turned devastation into an opportunity to build back better.

It made our day when the owner asked, “Can I hug you?” after seeing the finished product.

Sanibel Remodel

This was our 2nd time working with Jake and Olde Florida Contracting. Both times went smoothly, good work, great communication with the owner, Jake Carter. The second time we used Olde Florida Contracting was right after Hurricane Ian. They did a fabulous job getting everything done during a very difficult time on Sanibel Island. We are so grateful to be back in our home. Thank you!
